Name tags and Other Grade 6 Disasters | Spoiler -Free

Twelve-year-old Lizbeth always has a plan, and those plans have usually worked–until now. No matter what she tries, she can’t get rid of her dad’s new girlfriend, Claire. And when she and her mom move, Lizbeth has to join a sixth-grade class already in progress, where her teacher makes her wear a name tag and she’s seated with three notorious weirdos.

When faced with mandatory participation in a school talent show, Lizbeth and the Weirdos decide to create self portraits. Reluctantly, Lizbeth finds herself becoming friends with people she thought she had nothing in common with–and coming to terms with the things she can’t control.

Goodreads Synopsis

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the ARC but it has in now way affected my opinions .

So it has been ages since I wrote a book review . My last book review was on June 21st . So without further ado !

Can I just start off by saying I loved this book?

1.I really liked the characters. All of them had their own personalities and they were very diverse. I could hardly find any similarities between any of them.

2.  It also highlights the importance of standing up for what you believe in.

3. The protagonist is  bold, determined and introspective.

4. Finding your way in a group may it be family or friends

5.This book is also wickedly funny! The girls get up to a lot of mischief trying to get rid of Claire. Yet at times serious . It overall a balanced book.

7.Friendship is a defining theme in this book .

  1. Sometimes Lizabeth was annoying ! But most of the times I rooting for her:) Also as the character grew she turned more and more likeable . But I think it was all part of the character graph as she started accepting things !

The writing is remarkably strong — this story grabs you from page one and was a pleasure to read through and through. A warming tale that encompasses many strong themes like new school, new friends ,blended families, bullying ,unlikely friendships and a lot more ! Overall is an engaging middle-grade novel with memorable, endearing, and passionate protagonist. I highly recommend this book !

Do you want to read this book now? What do you like about middle grade books ? Do you like female main characters?

  4. Very well written !
I am obsessed with strong female characters, always have been and probably always will be. I grew up obsessing over female characters like Buffy Summers and Ellen Ripley, and hoping that I could only be half as cool as them when I grew up.
and this review definitely made me add this book to the tbr !
