BOOK REVIEW: Anne Of Green Gables!

Anne of Green Gables : L. Montgomery : 9780141321592

Marrila and Matthew Cuthbert are desiring a young french boy ( from the asylum ) about 11 yrs old to help them with their daily chores as they are aging. Instead, a super enthusiastic and imaginative little girl turns up at their doorstep and now they have no choice but to keep her with them. As it turns out, over time time they start liking her and her extremely talkative nature! It almost becomes becomes impossible to imagine Grren Gables ( the name of their house ) without her being around to always cheer them up with her limitless imagination!! Read this book to find out Anne Shirley’s ( the girl whom they adopted ) ambitions, nature and the problems faced my her and her step parents!!

So, I must say that when I first picked up the book and read the first chapter, I was so disheartened!

It did not quite live up to my expectations and interests. It had a full descriptive format and plenty of plants stuffed into every page..

I soon decided to leave it…

But, many of my closest friends had loved reading this book and had even recommended it to me many a times! So, I thought that there must be something about this book that hooked them so much.

Thus, I decided to continue reading it from the very next day. And you all wouldn’t believe that I loved it sooooo much that I read 10 chapters!! ( though I had my exams in the upcoming week.. )

As the story proceeded it got really very interesting and fun to read but I literally cried in the ending…

It was really very very very emotional!

I did not quite expect the tragics that happened in the ending…the death of Matthew Cuthbert, the fact that Marrila Cuthbert was almost about to be stone blind and worst of all, the idea of selling Green Gables!! I was literally shocked on reading this especially…

All of this really touched my heart deeply in within…

Overall, I totally enjoyed reading this book! I read it in a week! The four things that I liked the most about this book were:

FIRST:

I liked the way the author conveyed the message of equality among both the genders through this book!

Earlier, Marilla and Matthew had wanted a young French boy to help them for their daily chores but instead they were sent a skinny orphaned girl…

They had considered that girl to be weak and thus, had planned to send her back. Though when they kept her for a while, they realized that she was no less than a boy! Well, after all she was a human too! Even she was able to live up to their expectations by doing all the chores that a boy would have done for them!

I must say that indirectly the author has conveyed a very vital, strong and positive message to the readers with the help of this book!

SECOND:

I love the new scope of imagination introduced in this book! That girl, being so small could see the beauty within every single thing in her surroundings! Her imagination was endless!

I loved the way the author showcased it in the book! I really helped me realize the inner beauty within the minutest of things in my life! I truly aided in the stimulation of my creativity and also in the improvisation of my imagination skills!

THIRD:

The strong belief about hope and determination penetrated through this book was also something that i loved a lot!

The positivity in that young orphan girl about even the most difficult situations in life is so unique. That really helped her through thick and thin.

This is a really important lesson taught by the author to all the readers with the help of this novel!

I think this is really the best part of the book!

FOURTH:

Well, I even got to learn one of the most important things in life – Satisfaction!

It is really a very important abstract, that most of us lack. We are all always wishing to have more, more and more. We are never happy with what we own and never pay attention to it. We always compare ourselves to others and wish for the things they have, and we do not.

In this novel, the author has very well explained this concept through the character of the protagonist, the little orphaned girl.

She is happy and contented with the smallest and minutest of things in her life! An invitation to a tea party is like the most joyful moment in her entire life! I think it gives us all a very important message indirectly and that is to be always and always satisfied as well as blissful in life!!

Overall, I really loved it and I would surely recommend it to all the people reading my post!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

      1. Great!
I am a crazy potterhead by the way! Have you read the Harry Potter Series??
As a matter of fact i was thinking to start reading the Chronicles Of Narnia…
But i had a bit of a confusion. If you could please help me out?
I got to know that according to publication order, ” the lion, the witch and the wardrobe” is the first book wriiten but then later on a chronological series was introduced by the readers which said that ” the magician’s nephew” was the first book..
So, since you have read the entire series can you please tell me that which order shall i read the series in?? I would really be of great help!

      2. I actually haven’t read Harry Potter! I want to sometime though. 🙂

Of course!! Read the Magician’s Nephew first. It tells the story of how Narnia began, so it sets the stage for the rest of the series. 🙂 (Sort of like a really good prequel)

Let me know how you like it!

      2. Yeah, thanks a lot.
I have already read Little Women and Alice in the Wonderland but I would surely try A Little Princess. I am actually not quite interested in the sequels on Anne of Green Gables since nothing can can beat the very first edition.
Anyways, thanks a ton once again! Do read my other posts too. Hope you like them as much as this one.
