Now, let’s begin with my Book Review!
A young girl named Minli with her parents used to work in the field day and night. This was because the land was hard and poor. They lived near the fruitless mountain.
Well, it is called so as long ago a jade dragon along with her children was the GOD OF RAIN. Once while soaring through the sky, they overheard the mortals saying that they were tired of rain which naturally infuriated the dragon. Thus, the dragon showed her wrath by prohibiting all the rain on earth. But her children felt pity for the humanity. Thus, they sacrificed themselves by transforming into rivers. This opened the jade dragon’s eyes and she also transformed into a river in the hope that one day she would reunite with her children. Her black heart became the FRUITLESS MOUNAIN which till date does not reap lavish fruits. It marks that the Jade dragon is yet to be united.
At night, Minli listenS to stories about the Old Man Of The Moon (who lives on the Never – Ending Mountain ) who with his Book Of Fortune and Thread of Destiny ( that tied people to their destined future ) knew answers to all the questions. She decided to go on a quest to find answers to her ever curious questions.
Along the way, she firsts chances upon a talking fish called Jin who guides her the way, a powerful king who gives her the borrowed lines as instructed by the fish, two twins named A – Fu and Da – Fu who save her from the Green Tiger’s poison and finally the dragon ( who cannot fly) who accompanies her in the entire journey! Read the book to continue the glorious journey of Minli to WHERE THE MOUNTAIN MEETS THE MOON!!
Well, then I must say that I truly had a amazing experience reading this book. It is sure worth a try and I recommend it to all age groups as then I must say that you are never too old or too young to read this fabulous book and enjoy!
First of all, I loved the short stories added in every incident to make the history very clear, just like the story of the fruitless mountain that I wrote above. The book and the stories are all interlinked and tell a vivid and fruitful tale in themselves! They really help you to understand and imagine the characters and scenes.
Secondly, I love the pictures drawn to depict the basic crux of each chapter. The pictures are colorful, imaginative as well as creative! Overall, the images make the book more engaging as well as fun to read! Most importantly, they add beauty to the text, don’t they?
Last but not the least, is that the stories that the author, Grace Lin has written are inspired from her visits to places all over the world like Dubai, China etc. They add an entirely new facet to the novel. I think that is really the best part about the book!
To sum up, you must READ THIS BOOK!
BTW, The correct answer was ELIZABETH DAMI !
